I have edited and modified this blog piece in light of the constant emerging information. I still personally believe that we are missing a comparison with normal flu statistics of illness and death... so I have attempted to incorporate some information on this. Put simply, in our panic about this pandemic no one is talking it seeems to me about the usual death by flu statistics that happen every year. These flu deaths are also likely to have as part of the picture pre-existing vulnerabilities in the form of illnesses and a sub-par immune system, just as we are discovering with this 'pandemic'. So here is my modified piece:
The Coronavirus seems to have started with a perpetrator-victim situation where animals are kept in appalling conditions in the ‘wet markets’ in China so that the rich can eat exotic animal flesh. In these conditions a virus has an easy jump from animal to human through badly cooked contaminated meat.
We humans may see the virus as a perpetrator but a virus is merely living its life according to its own evolutionary ability.
Our governments and politicians are currently struggling to understand the situation, and feel a need to have control over life and death and the fear that they will lose their power if they do not control the spread of the virus, and so take great powers to control us and our lives. We are helpless in the face of 'lockdowns' and 'travel bans'.
What does not happen is a genuine debate between those authorities that see this as a genuine pandemic that must be controlled, and those who disagree and see the situation differently. This makes it hard for us to know what exactly the reality is. Here is a quote from the UK government Office for National Statistics for flu deaths in 2015:
Provisional death registration figures for England and Wales in 2015 show an increase of 28,189 deaths (5.6%), from 501,424 deaths in 2014 to 529,613 deaths in 2015. The 2015 provisional figure is the highest since 2003 when there were 539,151 deaths. The increase in 2015 was the largest year-on-year percentage increase seen since the change from 1967 to 1968 (6.3%). This article provides further detail on deaths in 2015 using a provisional extract of 2015 death registrations and 2015 population projections. Final mortality data and mid-year population estimates for 2015 will be released in summer 2016. (UK Office for National Statistics)
These statistics in my view do bring some levelling to the debate.
Nothing seems to be said much about how we look after our immune system even though it seems obvious that this is a vital question to managing flu and this current virus. So I will write here about what I know.
The Immune System from the perspective of IOPT
People who were not breast fed as children already are at a disadvantage, as a mother’s breast milk is a major starting boost to the child’s immune system. "Colostrum, produced for the first few days of breast-feeding is particularly rich in antibodies". So, the lack of a good healthy immune system has as its starting point a lack of emotional and loving connection with the mother. Only a traumatised mother doesn’t want to breast feed her child, and/or because of her own trauma may not be able to produce her own breast milk. The lack of breastfeeding is a confirmation of the trauma of identity and the trauma of love; unconsciously it is lack of protection from the mother to her child as the first injection of healthy immune-system boosting chemicals is missing.
Then because of these major traumas at the start of our lives there is an unrelenting stress on our immune system. Once trauma has happened the psycho-physical system can never truly rest again; there is a constant need to be on the alert to anything that may trigger our trauma, and rest and recuperation become increasingly impossible. The shock tension and stress on the body from the original trauma, and the continual need to be alert to re-triggering in the years ahead are a persistent stress and wearing down of the immune system.
We get used to this of course, and think that this is normal. We assume that the aches and pains in our body, and the repeated succumbing to illness is genetic, or life in general, and just who we are and there is nothing we can do about it.
In addition, if one has suffered a Trauma of Identity and a Trauma of Love, then the environment in which one has to live, one’s parents and family, do not demonstrate the natural urge to take care of ourselves, to ensure that we maintain our health. If a child is not wanted, for whatever reason, whether an outright ‘NO’ to the child, or an ambivalence and confusion in the mother as to what of her needs, the child may be able to fulfil, or how the child may be a threat to her, there is no clear demonstration of what it means to take care of one’s health and look after one’s immunity. We do not learn the importance of looking after ourselves, of being healthy and self-responsible.
Society is responsible!
This is a reflection of our society in which we have been told by authorities to eat and live in a certain way, that is all based on trauma survival strategies. So many aspects of our society function from trauma survival strategies that tell us “do it this way; eat this; don’t eat that; you are incapable of knowing for yourself… we have to tell you how to eat, how to live, how to have babies, how to look after yourself…” and so we are bombarded with this stuff that is constructed from trauma survival strategies, illusions of health and a constant eye on economic growth. Do not tell me that the advice given by those financially supported by the food industry is not based on their economic benefit! And the same goes for the pharmaceutical industry. We call these ‘industries’ because that is what they are: commercial enterprises out to make money (dictionary definition). And because the beginnings of our life did not support our natural inclination to be healthy, safe and live right, and to know naturally how to do that, we are hungry for others to tell us how to live, which you will recognise, is the survival strategy of ‘identification’. We identify with what they tell us because we do not trust ourselves and we are constantly looking for love and affirmation from out there.
One notorious example is how the food industry has manipulated us over the past 70 or so years: the initial idea that fat is not good for you, so “avoid fat”. But then so much of the food tasted of nothing and was boring, so they began to add sugar to make food taste better. Now we are all addicted to sugar, and obesity and diabetes are the major ‘health issue’ of the 21st century. Have a look in the supermarket… see how many products have sugar in them, even meat and fish products. It's insane! And we are hooked to eat what they want us to eat by our addiction to sugar.
Back to the virus...
Our own ability not to be victimised by such a virus depends on how we look after our psychological and physical health, and the health of our immune system. And these depend on our willingness to be responsible for ourselves and take care of ourselves, which to say in IOPT thinking is to understand and work with our trauma.
The reality seems with this virus is likely to cause death to those who have prior vulnerabilities, by their age, compromised immune system, current physical ailments. This it seems is also always the case with old-fashioned flu.
My ‘I’ and my Immunity
To have a healthy immune system relies on having a healthy and stable ‘I’, an ‘I’ that takes oneself, one’s health and one’s trauma seriously; that doesn’t rely on others to tells us what deep within ourselves we do actually know. No one else knows you as you can, if you want to, really know yourself. Use the Intention Method to know yourself, to access your trauma, to take care of your physical and psychological health, to boost your immune system.
Death is part of life…
… and is a natural consequence of being alive. We cannot avoid death, but we can support ourselves to enjoy and appreciate our life and our health for as long as possible. Our fear of death mobilises panic and perpetrator-victim dynamics… beware getting caught in the panic.
Here is a final quote from an email from Franz:
"Focus on your I, connect yourself with your body, let your immune-system do its job. And if there will be death – which always will happen and be a factor in our life – let the pain, the grief and whatever feelings be there. The protection does not come from outside – from administrative and medical measures – it only comes from inside ourselves. As in most situations the immune-system can cope with the seemingly new coronavirus; there is no use to avoid it. Sooner or later it will challenge us."
